Real Madrid are looking to strengthen the squad this summer to compete both in the league and in Europe next season. Carlo Ancelotti’s men finished runners-up in La Liga last season and also missed out on the UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos are unwilling to offer more than €200m for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe this summer. Elsewhere, midfielder Federico Valverde rejected advances from Chelsea.
On that note, here’s a look at the top Real Madrid transfer stories as of July 6, 2023:
Real Madrid won’t pay more than €200m for Kylian Mbappe
The French striker is a long-term target for the La Liga giants, who plan to sign the player next summer. Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint Germain is expected to run out at the end of next season, but he has no intention of signing an extension.
Los Blancos have already failed to sign the 24-year-old twice but remain on his heels. Real Madrid are now hoping to secure the player in a Bosman transfer next summer. However, recent comments from Paris president Nasser Al-Khelaifi have forced them to back down.
Al-Khelaifi says the Ligue 1 giants will benefit from Mbappe this summer if he continues to block a new deal. Several clubs have been put on alert as a result, with Liverpool among the player’s admirers. Los Blancos aren’t opposed to signing a player of the Frenchman’s caliber this year, especially as they are on the hunt for by Karim Benzema successor.
The 35-year-old left the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer to join Al Ittihad, and Real Madrid want Mbappe as his long-term replacement. However, Los Blancos won’t enter a bidding war for the PSG striker and have decided on their valuation of the 24-year-old.
Federico Valverde refuses Chelsea
Federico Valverde turned down an option to join Chelsea this summer, according to AS.
The Uruguayan midfielder has become a target for the Blues this year. Pochettino wants to improve his midfield options and has his sights set on the 24-year-old.
Valverde has become one of La Liga’s best midfielders since joining Real Madrid in 2016. He enjoyed another successful run at the Santiago Bernabeu last season, registering 12 goals and seven assists in 56 games . While he’s been a regular under Carlo Ancelotti, the arrival of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund has raised doubts over Valverde’s future.
Chelsea are hoping to take advantage of the situation and have offered the player an escape route to Stamford Bridge. However, the Uruguayan has no desire to leave the La Liga giants. Los Blancos and Ancelotti also see him as a central part of their plans and won’t accept any offers for the 24-year-old.
Carlo Ancelotti set for Brazil job in 2024
Carlo Ancelotti will lead the Brazil national team next summer, the Brazilian Football Confederation has announced.
The Selecao are yet to name a successor to Tite, who quit after a disappointing performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The South American nation has been hot on Ancelotti’s heels for some time and has publicly professed its admiration for the Italian manager.
Ancelotti has an enviable track record and is one of the game’s managerial legends. His contract with Real Madrid runs until the end of next season, but he has always insisted he intends to stick to the agreement.
The CBF is ready to wait for their man and has just announced his imminent arrival. The Italian will complete his spell with Los Blancos and take charge of Brazil in June 2024. However, the La Liga giants and Ancelotti are yet to confirm the news.
